For generations, education systems around the world have quietly promoted a single definition of success. Work hard, earn good grades, attend university, and follow a fixed and linear career path. While this route has opened doors for many students, it has also created a narrow narrative. One that unintentionally sidelines learners whose strengths lie in applied skills, hands-on problem solving, or technical expertise. At the same time, according to the World Manufacturing Foundation, 74% of companies report an acute shortage of skilled workers. Ironically, youth unemployment remains high in many regions, even as jobs go unfilled. This disconnect raises an important question.What if success was never meant to follow just one path? Vocational education offers an interesting alternate direction, not as a backup plan, but as a purposeful, respected, and future-ready pathway into meaningful work.

In the world of education, a decade represents more than just a passage of time; it marks a generation of students guided, thousands of careers launched, and a global shift in how we perceive the transition from high school to the rest of life. As we look toward August 2026, the global education community is preparing for a milestone ten years in the making.

The dust has settled at the O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU) campus, but the momentum generated at the first-ever IC3 Regional Conference – South Asia is only just beginning. Held from 23 to 24 January 2026, this landmark event brought together 161 delegates for an immersive residential experience designed to rethink the future of student guidance.

India now accounts for one in every nine student suicides in the world. The 2024 IC3 Student Suicide Report warns that deaths are rising sharply, especially among those in middle, secondary, and higher secondary school—the years when pressure peaks and support systems often fail.

“Bullying rarely announces itself through loud signals; it often begins with quiet changes such as a child withdrawing from friends, hesitating to go to school, sleeping poorly, or suddenly losing confidence,” says Ganesh Kohli, Founder of IC3 Movement.

Drawing from insights highlighted in recent IC3 reports, including the IC3 Student Well-being Pulse Report 2025, a growing need for emotionally intelligent institutions, structured support systems, and leadership that prioritises well-being alongside academic outcomes is needed. It reinforces IC3’s longstanding advocacy for comprehensive counseling frameworks that make classrooms emotionally safe spaces for all students.
