Expanding Pathways Beyond the Traditional Degree

• 13 March 2026
For generations, education systems around the world have quietly promoted a single definition of success. Work hard, earn good grades, attend university, and follow a fixed and linear career path. While this route has opened doors for many students, it has also created a narrow narrative. One that unintentionally sidelines learners whose strengths lie in applied skills, hands-on problem solving, or technical expertise. At the same time, according to the World Manufacturing Foundation, 74% of companies report an acute shortage of skilled workers. Ironically, youth unemployment remains high in many regions, even as jobs go unfilled. This disconnect raises an important question. What if success was never meant to follow just one path? Vocational education offers an interesting alternate direction, not as a backup plan, but as a purposeful, respected, and future-ready pathway into meaningful work.

Class 12 Students are Struggling: 59% Report Low Satisfaction with School Life

A nationwide survey of 8,515 students reveals a sharp decline in mental well-being and school satisfaction as students progress to Class 12. The 2025-26 Student Well-being Pulse Report shows that 59% of Class 12 students experience low satisfaction with school life, compared to just 23% in Class 8. Positive traits like happiness, confidence, and motivation decrease with age, while negative emotions such as anxiety and low energy rise significantly during the final school years. Despite these academic struggles, 63% of students maintain high satisfaction in their personal lives and relationships with family and friends.
